How to Apply

The Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership fosters Indigenous leadership, providing exceptional people with the support they need to achieve their vision for their communities.

The Fellowship provides support to recognised leaders and opportunities to emerging leaders within Victoria's Indigenous communities. Building Indigenous leadership is a vital way of improving the social and emotional well-being of communities, and the Fellowship helps Indigenous communities to develop innovative responses to current issues and future challenges.

The Fellowship supports Indigenous leaders, past, present and future, striving to achieve positive change for Indigenous Victorians and strengthening links between Indigenous and mainstream Australia.

What is an Emerging Leader?

An Emerging Leader is someone who is at the beginning of their journey. They have recognised leadership skills and are ready to further develop their opportunities both personally and professionally. Their present focus is on a singular project or plan in an already recognised area of work.

Information on future applications for the Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership Programs will be posted on the website in 2014.

The Selection Process

To ensure there is no conflict of interest in the selection of the Emerging Leaders or Fellows for the Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership, the Selection Panel is independent of the Advisory Committee.  In the event a member of the Selection Panel has a personal or professional relationship with an applicant that could result in ethical concerns they may be requested to be excused from serving on the Panel.

The independent Selection Panel, comprises both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of high standing in community, business and leadership roles, reviews all applications and shortlists applicants for interview so that the panelists can learn more about the applicants' vision for the future and how they would use the Award to make a difference.

We will offer the opportunity for shortlisted applicants to meet with a previous recipient of the Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership Program to help prepare them for their interview.

Following the interviews, the Selection Panel then makes its recommendation to the Advisory Committee for the Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership.

Interviews take place in Melbourne and followed by an announcement function.
